Equipment

  • Chef's Knife
  • Skillet

Ingredients

  • 4 slices whole wheat bread
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Instructions

  • Using a drinking glass, cut a hole out of the center of the bread slices.
  • Place the butter in a large skillet and heat over medium until the butter begins to foam.
  • Place bread slices into skillet, however many will fit.
  • Break open an egg into each hole in the slices.
  • Cook for 3-4 minutes or until the egg whites have fully set.
  • Carefully remove from skillet with a large spatula.
  • Continue until all have been cooked.
  • Cook the remaining bread circles in hot skillet to toast up and use for dipping.

Notes

  • Storage: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days. Reheat in the skillet for best texture.
  • Freezing: You can freeze the cooked bread and eggs, although it’s best fresh. Thaw and reheat in a skillet.
  • Pairing: Try serving with a fresh salad or sautéed greens for a healthy side.
  • Herb Infusion: Add fresh herbs like chives or parsley into the eggs for a burst of flavor.
  • Cheese Top: Sprinkle some cheese on top of the eggs while they cook for a cheesy twist.
  • Egg Variations: Experiment with different styles of eggs, like scrambled or poached, instead of the classic fried.
