Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil.
Add broccoli and boil for 1 minute.
Drain and immediately place broccoli in a large bowl of ice water to stop it from cooking.
In a small bowl add orange juice, soy sauce, orange zest and corn starch, whisking until corn starch is dissolved.
Heat a non-stick wok or large deep skillet over high heat.
Add sesame oil, scallions, garlic and ginger and sauté for 30 seconds.
Add the sauce and broccoli and sauté for 1 to 2 minutes, until the broccoli is crisp-tender.
Sprinkle with sesame seeds and red pepper flakes (if using).
Serve immediately.
- Tip 1: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Reheat gently on the stove to maintain texture.
- Tip 2: You can freeze the cooked broccoli, but it’s best enjoyed fresh. If you do freeze it, ensure it’s in a sealed bag and consume within three months.
- Tip 3: This dish pairs wonderfully with rice, quinoa, or noodles. Consider serving it alongside grilled chicken or tofu for a complete meal.
- Tip 4: Add other vegetables like bell peppers or snap peas for added color and crunch. You can also include proteins like chickpeas for a more filling dish.
- Tip 5: If you prefer a milder taste, skip the red pepper flakes entirely, or use a pinch to start.
- Tip 6: Feel free to incorporate seasonal vegetables for a unique twist, such as asparagus in spring or squash in autumn.
