Equipment

  • Frying Pan
  • Mixing Bowl

Ingredients

  • 12 tablespoons Butter
  • 2 Lemon Zest
  • 2 Lemon Juice
  • 1 tablespoon Black Cracked Pepper
  • 2 teaspoons Ground Black Pepper
  • 1 pinch Kosher Salt

Instructions

  • Begin by placing a small saucepan over low to medium heat. Add the butter to the pan. Keep an eye on it while it melts; you want it to melt gently without browning. The aroma will fill the air, and this is the perfect time to prepare your other ingredients.
  • While the butter is melting, wash the lemons thoroughly. Use a zester to carefully remove the zest from the lemons, avoiding the bitter white pith. If you don’t have a zester, a fine grater will work just fine.
  • Once the butter has melted completely, add the freshly grated lemon zest and the juice from the two lemons. The combination of the zest and juice will create a refreshing and vibrant flavor.
  • Now, take your cracked black pepper and ground black pepper, adding them to the mixture. Stir gently with a wooden spoon or a whisk to combine all the ingredients. At this point, you might notice the sauce thickening slightly.
  • Add a pinch of kosher salt to the sauce. This little bit of seasoning will really enhance all the flavors and bring everything together. Taste it and adjust as necessary.
  • Once everything is mixed well, turn off the heat. Stir the sauce once more to make sure it’s evenly blended. You don’t want to serve this sauce cold, so use it immediately over your favorite dish.
  • Before serving, make sure to give the sauce a good stir. I always remind my guests to do so as well, ensuring that every bite is full of flavor. The Lemon Pepper Butter Sauce is best enjoyed fresh!
  • This sauce can also be made in advance. If you choose to make it ahead of time, simply reheat it gently on low heat before serving. This will help revive the lovely aromas and flavors.
  • Finally, enjoy your Lemon Pepper Butter Sauce drizzled over grilled fish, roasted vegetables, or even pasta for a delightful meal!

Notes

When melting the butter, do so gently over a low heat to avoid browning. You can make this sauce last minute; it doesn't taste better after sitting for a while. The cracked black pepper adds pops of flavor, while the ground black pepper gives heat. When zesting a lemon, avoid the bitter white part of the lemon. The juice adds acidity to the butter sauce, and be sure to avoid seeds. Stir well before serving, and remind guests to do the same.
