Equipment

  • Frying Pan

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon Butter
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • ½ lemon Zest of lemon
  • 1-2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • ¼ teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 2 heads Broccoli
  • to taste Freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  • Begin by placing a large sauté pan over medium heat. Add the butter and let it melt completely, watching for it to become bubbly and slightly golden.
  • Once the butter is melted, pour in the olive oil. This combination of fats will help sauté the garlic and broccoli while adding a rich flavor.
  • Add the minced garlic and lemon zest to the pan, stirring them together in the hot oil. Keep an eye on it, as you want the garlic to become fragrant but not burnt, which can happen quickly.
  • Now, sprinkle in the kosher salt to season the sauté. The salt will draw out moisture and enhance the flavors as you cook.
  • Next, gently toss in the broccoli florets. Make sure each piece is coated with the buttery, garlicky goodness.
  • To steam the broccoli to perfection, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water (or even chicken broth) to the pan, then immediately cover it with a lid. This will create a steaming effect that helps cook the broccoli.
  • Allow the broccoli to cook for about 5 more minutes. Check for tenderness with a fork; it should be bright green and fork-tender but still slightly crisp.
  • If you find that the broccoli needs more moisture, feel free to add more water as needed. Just be cautious not to overcook it!
  • After cooking, taste your creation and check for seasonings. If needed, sprinkle in a touch more salt to perfect the flavor.
  • Finally, finish with a sprinkle of freshly ground black pepper if desired, and give everything a good toss before serving. This final touch adds a lovely warmth to the dish.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat in a skillet for the best results.
