Equipment

  • Chef's Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Mixing Bowl

Ingredients

  • 16 oz Refried Beans
  • 16 oz Sour Cream
  • 16 oz Salsa
  • 4 oz Sliced Black Olives
  • 1 cup Shredded Lettuce
  • 1 cup Shredded Cheese
  • 1 packet Taco Seasoning
  • Tortilla Chips

Instructions

  • Start by spreading the heated and smooth refried beans onto a large serving platter or in a transparent glass pie plate. Be mindful of the size of your platter, as it will determine how deep the dip is. If using a larger platter, consider using more than one can of beans to achieve a satisfying thickness.
  • In a small bowl, mix the 16 oz tub of sour cream with the taco seasoning until well combined. This mixture adds a creamy and flavorful layer that complements the beans beautifully.
  • Using a spatula, carefully spread the sour cream mixture on top of the refried beans. Make sure to cover the beans completely, as this will help keep the layer’s flavors distinct and appealing.
  • Add the salsa on top of the sour cream mixture, carefully keeping it inside the ring of sour cream for a beautiful presentation. This layering creates a colorful visual that’s hard to resist.
  • Finally, top the dip with lettuce, cheese, black olives, and if desired, fresh tomatoes or diced avocado. These toppings not only add flavor but also a vibrant array of colors.
  • Cover and refrigerate the dip until you’re ready to serve. This allows the flavors to meld together, enhancing the overall taste.
  • When it’s time to enjoy, serve your Layered Taco Dip with crunchy tortilla chips. Make sure to scoop deep to get all the delicious layers!

Notes

  • Tip 1: Try a dash of cayenne pepper and a bit of garlic powder in addition to taco seasoning mix.
  • Tip 2: If adding cooked ground beef, layer on top of beans before adding the other layers and favorite taco ingredients. This keeps the weight of the meat on the bottom.
  • Tip 3: Make a cream cheese mixture: Mix half a block of softened cream cheese with the sour cream to create a thicker and heavier dip.
  • Tip 4: Like many taco dip recipes, this dip is not keto-friendly.
  • Tip 5: A clear pie plate is a great way to serve the dip. It holds all the ingredients in it and allows you to see all the layers.
