Equipment

  • Oven
  • Grater
  • Chef's Knife
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Baking Sheet

Ingredients

  • 1 batch pizza dough homemade here
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cups marinara sauce or your favorite pizza sauce
  • 8 ounces sharp provolone cheese freshly grated
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese torn
  • 6 ounces fontina cheese freshly grated
  • 2/3 cup sliced hot banana peppers
  • 2/3 cup sliced hot jalapeno peppers
  • 1 jar pepperazzi peppers or cherry peppers/pimentos
  • 1/4 cup finely grated Parmigiano-Reggiano for topping

Instructions

  • Prep the dough and once it’s ready to bake, roll it out on a well floured surface.
  • Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.
  • If I’m using a baking sheet, I’ll sprinkle a bit of fine ground cornmeal on the sheet before rolling out the dough to loosely fit. If I’m using a pizza stone, I’ll usually preheat the oven and stone to 475 degrees F.
  • Rub the dough with olive oil then cover it in the tomato sauce.
  • Add on half of the cheese (provolone, mozz + fontina), then cover the pizza evenly with a mixture of the peppers.
  • Top it with the remaining cheese, saving the parm for after.
  • Bake the pizza for 20 to 25 minutes or until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
  • Remove the pizza and let it cool slightly before covering in the grated parm and slicing.
  • Serve!

Notes

  • Storage: If you have leftovers, store the pizza in an airtight container in the fridge. It should last for up to three days.
  • Freezing: You can freeze the pizza before baking! Just assemble it, wrap it tightly, and store it for up to two months.
  • Pairing: This pizza goes exceptionally well with a fresh garden salad or some garlic bread on the side.
  • Crispy Crust: For an extra crispy crust, pre-bake the dough for 5 minutes before adding toppings.
  • Herb Infusion: Add fresh herbs like basil or oregano to the sauce for an aromatic twist.
  • Slice with Care: Use a sharp pizza cutter for clean slices without disturbing the toppings.
