- 6 slices Thick slices bread Cut from a stale Brioche, Sourdough or Challah Loaf.
- 3 whole Eggs
- 3 cups Milk
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
- ¼ cup Sugar
- 1 tablespoon Cinnamon
- 4 tablespoons Butter Divided for cooking.
Start by cutting off the crusts from the slices of stale bread and cut each slice into three thick pieces lengthwise. Set aside the bread pieces.
In a shallow dish, combine the cinnamon and sugar. Set aside for later use.
In another shallow dish, crack the eggs and add the milk and vanilla extract. Whisk thoroughly until well combined.
Take the bread sticks and soak them in the egg mixture until fully saturated. Ensure they're moist but not falling apart.
Melt a tablespoon of butter on LOW-MEDIUM heat in a skillet. The butter should sizzle gently.
Add the soaked bread pieces to the skillet. Cook until golden brown on each side, about three to four minutes.
Once golden, roll the sticks in the cinnamon-sugar mixture, coating all sides.
If needed, add more butter to the skillet and continue cooking additional sticks until all are golden and delicious.
Serve your warm French Toast Sticks with a side of syrup!
- Use stale bread: A sturdy stale bread will absorb all the delicious custard.
- Whisk well: To avoid white egg strands from forming, thoroughly whisk the egg into the milk.
- Use room temperature eggs: They incorporate better than cold eggs.
- Drizzle options: Pair with Cinnamon Buttermilk Syrup, Maple Syrup, Strawberry Sauce, Nutella Dip, or Yogurt Fruit Dip.
