Equipment

  • Frying Pan
  • Blender
  • Oven
  • Grater
  • Chef's Knife
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Baking Sheet

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground lamb or beef
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/4 cup grated onion or finely minced
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 serving Tahini sauce for topping, optional

Instructions

  • Pre-heat oven to 450 degrees F.
  • In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients (except the tahini sauce) with your hands or a wooden spoon, until well blended. Form the mixture into 24 small balls; I like to use an ice-cream scoop to get the exact sizes.
  • Place kofta balls 1 inch apart on an un-greased sheet pan and press to flatten; squeeze as many as you can on the pan because they will shrink as they bake.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the center is done. Place under the broiler for 2 minutes or until lightly charred.
  • Serve with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and tahini sauce, in pitas or as a salad.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

Here are some helpful tips:
  • Storage: Store leftover patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat them in the oven for a crispy finish.
  • Freezing: You can freeze uncooked patties for up to two months. Just place them on a baking sheet, freeze until solid, then transfer to a freezer bag.
  • Pairing: Serve Easy Baked Kofta Patties with a refreshing cucumber salad or tzatziki sauce for a delightful contrast.
  • Make a double batch: If you're entertaining, making a double batch ensures there are plenty to go around!
  • Herb variations: Experiment with different herbs like mint or cilantro to give a fresh twist to the flavor profile.
  • Spice level: Adjust the cayenne pepper according to your taste. Omit it for a milder version, especially for kids.
  • Grill option: For a smoky flavor, consider grilling the patties instead of baking them. Just make sure to keep an eye on them to prevent drying out.
