Equipment

  • Medium pot with lid

Ingredients

  • 1 cup bone broth
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup basmati rice do not rinse
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • In a medium pot, add the bone broth and water. Stir them together to combine. The rich aroma of the broth will start to fill your kitchen, hinting at the warmth and flavor to come.
  • Place the pot over medium-high heat without a lid. Watch closely as the mixture begins to heat up. You'll notice bubbling at the edges, which indicates that it's getting close to a simmer.
  • As the mixture starts bubbling and the surface becomes frothy, it’s time to cover the pot with a lid. Reducing the heat to low at this stage is crucial for a gentle simmer.
  • Let it simmer for about 13 to 15 minutes. During this time, resist the urge to lift the lid. Keeping it covered helps the rice cook evenly and absorb all that flavorful broth.
  • After the cooking time is up, tilt the pot slightly to check if all the water has been absorbed. If the rice is perfectly cooked, there should be no excess liquid.
  • Immediately replace the lid and remove the pot from heat. Let it sit for another 10 minutes. This step allows the rice to steam, becoming fluffy and tender.
  • Finally, take a fork and fluff the rice gently. The grains should separate beautifully, ready to be enjoyed. Serve it warm and relish every comforting bite.

Notes

  • Storage: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
  • Freezing: You can freeze the rice for future meals. Just make sure it’s cooled completely before transferring to a freezer bag.
  • Pairing: This rice pairs wonderfully with grilled vegetables or a fresh salad for a well-rounded meal.
  • Flavor boosters: Consider adding chopped herbs or spices such as thyme or bay leaves to the broth for extra flavor.
  • Cooking alternative: If you're in a hurry, you can use a rice cooker to prepare this dish effortlessly.
