Ingredients for Apple Overnight Oats

Apple Overnight Oats

The ingredients in Apple Overnight Oats work harmoniously to create a nutritious and delicious breakfast option. Each component is carefully chosen for its flavor and health benefits. The star players here are the rolled oats, which provide a hearty base, and the apples, which add natural sweetness and texture. Together, they create a wholesome dish that you’ll look forward to each morning.

  • ½ Tbsp butter – Adds a rich, creamy flavor when sautéing the apples.
  • 2 medium apples, I prefer Gala or Fuji – These sweet varieties add the perfect amount of natural sweetness.
  • 1 tsp cinnamon, divided – A warm spice that enhances the flavor profile of the oats.
  • 1 Tbsp maple syrup – A natural sweetener that complements the oats and apples beautifully.
  • 1-2 Tbsp water – Helps to create a little sauce when cooking the apples.
  • 1 ½ cup rolled oats, regular or gluten free – The base of the dish, providing heartiness and fiber.
  • 1 ¾ cups unsweetened almond milk, or milk of choice – A creamy liquid that soaks the oats.
  • 1 ½ tsp cinnamon – Adds extra warmth to the dish.
  • 1 Tbsp maple syrup, more or less as desired – Customize the sweetness to your liking.

How to Cook Apple Overnight Oats

Apple Overnight Oats

Preparing Apple Overnight Oats is a breeze. You’ll start by cooking the apples to bring out their natural sweetness and flavor, then mix everything together for a meal that’s ready when you are! Follow these simple steps to create a delicious breakfast that you can enjoy warm or cold.

  1. Begin by washing and dicing the apples into bite-sized pieces. You can leave the skin on for added nutrients, or peel them if you prefer a smoother texture.
  2. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the diced apples and sauté them for about 4 to 5 minutes. You want the apples to be slightly softened but still hold their shape, releasing their juices into the pan.
  3. Next, sprinkle in 1 tsp of cinnamon, maple syrup, and water. Stir constantly to coat the apples evenly. This will create a delicious sauce that enhances the flavor of the apples. Allow it to simmer until most of the liquid is absorbed but not completely gone.
  4. Once the apples are cooked, remove the skillet from heat and set it aside to cool slightly while you prepare the oat mixture.
  5. In a medium-sized bowl, combine the rolled oats, almond milk, 1 ½ tsp cinnamon, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and a pinch of sea salt. Stir everything together until well mixed.
  6. Take about two-thirds of the sautéed apples and gently fold them into the oat mixture. This allows the flavors to meld beautifully.
  7. Next, you can choose to divide the oats into 3 to 4 individual bowls or jars. Alternatively, you can pour the mixture into a large container that can be sealed shut.
  8. Top the oatmeal jars with the remaining sautéed apples, ensuring an even distribution for added flavor and presentation.
  9. Now, cover the jars or container and refrigerate overnight or for at least 4 hours. This allows the oats to soak up all the delicious flavors.
  10. In the morning, enjoy your Apple Overnight Oats cold or warm them up if you prefer. Feel free to add an extra splash of almond milk if they seem too thick!

Things Worth Knowing

  • Soaking Time: Allow the oats to soak overnight for the best texture. If you’re in a hurry, aim for at least 4 hours.
  • Flavor Enhancements: Feel free to experiment with different spices such as nutmeg or cardamom for a unique twist.
  • Texture Variations: If you prefer a creamier texture, blend the mixture before refrigerating.
  • Nut Options: Try adding different nuts like almonds or pecans for variety in flavor and crunch.
